The Eye's Deception by ~Jedi-Consular:iconJedi-Consular:

What horrible tricks the eyes play upon the mind
Being a part of you they know the desires of your heart…the yearnings of your soul
They know what it is you search for throughout your life

Following their own fiendish agenda they cause you to see false things
For if you search for something hard enough you will always find it
Even if it isn’t there

You search as if wandering through a vast desert
When an oasis is spotted ahead you dare not question its existence
Spotted is such a paradise like none has ever seen

Striving towards it you imagine the heavenly gifts held within
Vast clear waters to quench any thirst
Sustenance enough to nourish even the most withered of bodies
You run toward this peaceful bounty
Ready to dive into a new, wonderful existence

As you hit the ground the realization comes all too late
The sand cuts you like a hundred knives as you empty it from your lungs
Hopeless and stranded your mind becomes filled with despair

You abandon all hope within yourself
Any trust of your senses or your feelings is lost
As you spot yet another oasis upon the horizon in the endless desert

Author's Comments

This just came to me the other day and decided to act upon the thought and write it down.

There were a couple things that motivated me...especially the line about seeing things even if they aren't there. Perhaps many of us are fooled this way. but how would you know if its there or not? perhaps its our own ignorance that keeps us happy.

But from this sentence came the metaphor of a mirage in the desert...you want food and water so bad that your eyes are willing to show you anything. but in todays world why should this stop at water in a desert?

the last line was just added as perhaps a spin-off or maybe a glimmer of what comes as the days go by.

the question then remains...should you go for the next oasis? on one hand you may only be disappointed...on the other hand it may be exactly what you need. how do you know?
